Professional Bio

Trevor Russell has served as FMR's Water Program Director since 2006. He has a degree in economics from the Colorado College, and has more than 25 years of experience in environmental & public health advocacy. 

FMR Role

Trevor's work includes federal and state water quality advocacy, education, communications, and coalition development. This includes issues related to agricultural water quality, continuous living cover (CLC) cropping systems, drinking water protection, Clean Water Act implementation and market-based strategies for achieving Minnesota's clean water goals. 

Trevor also coordinates the Minnesota Environmental Partnership (MEP) Water Cluster ​and works with our allies to advance legislative and administrative policies that protect and restore water quality and river health in Minnesota. In addition, Trevor represents FMR on both the Mississippi River Network (MRN) and the Mississippi River Restoration & Resilience Initiative (MRRRI) Steering Committees working to advance river-related policy and funding opportunities at the federal level.

In both 2012 and 2016, Trevor co-authored the award-winning State of the River Report, and has since presented information on the state of Minnesota's water resources to thousands of attendees at local events.

Personal Details

Trevor lives with his dog Rio in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis and enjoys canoeing, camping, breweries, lawn games and spending time with friends. He is an avid gardener and homebrewer.
