FMR will be hosting a free river-focused walking tour in partnership with Mississippi River Network's River Days of Action.

The light hike (about 2 miles in total) will include a discussion about the Ford Area C site and the future of two Twin Cities locks and dams. There will also be a pre-tour social hour and an opportunity for Q&A at the end. An agenda is below.

This is a great opportunity to get up close to the river while learning about important studies that could impact its future.

Agenda

  • 5 p.m.  Meet by the riverfront picnic area at the north entrance of Hidden Falls Regional Park (we'll have signs to guide you) for an optional pre-tour social hour. We will be providing drinks and light snacks.
  • 5:30 p.m. — Depart picnic area and walk an unpaved trail along the river, while learning about the history of the Ford Area C site and the Twin Cities locks and dams. It is about a 1-mile walk to the Ford Area C site and view of Lock and Dam 1.
  • 6:30 p.m. — Walk back to picnic area, with time for a Q&A session.
  • 7 p.m. — End of walking tour.

We recommend wearing shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting sandy — the trail is covered in large areas of sand and sediment from this spring's flooding.
